Safari Niagara has been growing in popularity every year since we opened in 2002! This year, we’re focused on setting the path for future growth. It all starts with a new identity as Safari Niagara. Safari Niagara tells people what we are and where we are in a fun, easy to remember way.
The seed was planted by Stephen J. Tykolis. In 1990 upon his retirement from his businesses, Stevensville Lawn Service and Stevensville Garden Gallery, he started collecting domestic animals (with a few unique species) for his family and friends enjoyment.
Upon his passing in 1992, his three children, Terry, Marianne, and Tim brought his collection inside the Stevensville Garden Gallery and named his area "Papa Steve's" in his recognition. Shortly thereafter, they started purchasing more animals including exotic and unique species. Eventually, thoughts turned towards larger animals which they housed on the parcel of land behind the Garden Gallery. The collection started to grow to the point that one day they realized this beauty should be shared. The birth of ZOOZ occurred at this time.
The Tykolis family sat down with a team and created a master plan, which would be constructed in phases over the years to come. The first phase has successfully been completed and has brought them to the grand opening on May 18, 2002.
They have plans in the future to further expand, phases for more educational exhibits, day and week camps for families and children. More animal environments are also being created. A miniature golf course is in the works as well as a master plan for the newly acquired 200 acres which joins the property to the west
The family looks forward to years of memories and tales to share with their family and friends.
