SpecKids Unlimited:

The SpecKids Unlimited mandate is a simple one: to improve the lives of children and youth in our community.

SpecKids Unlimited is the primary vehicle for The Hamilton Spectator's philanthropy, community partnerships and community capacity-building. SpecKids Unlimited has a vision to play a leadership role in our community, by making a difference in the lives of youth and children. We are The Hamilton Spectator. Our roots run deep in this community, reaching back more than 160 years.

In supporting SpecKids Unlimited, you will help ensure that more children in our community can have every opportunity that any child in Hamilton should rightly expect as a citizen of this country. "SpecKids Unlimited has a really quite simple mandate -- it's the same mandate that the Poverty Roundtable has -- to make this the best possible place to raise a child," said Spectator Publisher Dana Robbins.

Funds donated to Spec KidsUnlimited support the following initiatives:

The Summer Camp Fund – this fund has a goal each year to send more than 1,000 kids at risk to a week-long, fun-filled adventure at camp. Children get a break from their everyday burdens and have the chance to just be kids.

Jeff Dickins Memorial Award – bursaries are donated annually to high school students who have demonstrated a commitment to athletic participation while maintaining a high academic standard and involvement in the community.

Hess Kids Unlimitedis an Employee Involvement Program that combines charitable giving with initiatives designed to help less-fortunate children through the involvement of Spectator employees providing service and support to Hess Street School, a local, high-needs elementary school. It has been the Spectator’s honour to support students with nutrition programs, literacy initiatives, sports equipment, art supplies, bursaries and attendance at ballet, music, cultural and artistic events.

Community Building – The Hamilton Spectator has one great interest for its outreach: we will contribute to our community’s success and its future through making lives better for kids and youth. We are enthusiastically interested in initiatives that support this goal and will consider partnerships and requests large and small.
